WooWeekly #617: Checkout Summit 2027 | Gutenberg Product Description | Black Friday

Happy Wednesday!

I’m writing this with a cold and very little sleep, so please excuse any mess or typos this week. Apparently I’ve also decided that everything here still needs to be done manually for now… although that may change sooner rather than later!

Business-wise, there’s a lot happening. Registration for Save The Plugin closes today, so if you’ve been following that project, this is the last chance to get involved. I’ve also been working on overhauling a few premium and free plugins, even though, as many say, apparently WP plugins are dead. But the biggest news is that I’ve just opened early bird ticket sales for Checkout Summit 2027. Yes, I am we are doing it again!

Checkout Summit 2026: The Numbers, the Mistakes, and Why I’m Doing It Again in 2027

In June 2025 I started googling seaside venues near Palermo.

A small spreadsheet, a very optimistic (!) business plan, and the idea that WooCommerce developers deserved a conference that felt like ours.

A few months later I was sweating through a 42°C venue tour, wondering if I’d survive long enough to actually run it!

I hadn’t organized an international conference before, so most of what happened between that Google search and opening day was figured out as I went, in public, often on the fly…

WooCommerce Product Descriptions Need Blocks. I Fixed It!

A few days ago I went live with James Kemp, Core Product Manager for WooCommerce, to walk through how a real WooCommerce pull request goes from idea to merge.

And yes, I walked away with some homework!

So I made myself a promise: when something important is broken, I open a PR instead of writing yet another workaround. Especially now that it’s “affordable” in terms of time-to-first-pull-request 🙂

First on my list was the thing that bugs me every single time I edit a product: in 2026, WooCommerce product descriptions still can’t use the block editor.

The Experimental WooCommerce Dual API is now a plugin

WooCommerce 10.9 introduced an experimental WooCommerce Dual API: a code-first architecture that generates GraphQL endpoints from PHP classes. In WooCommerce 11.2 we are removing this experimental dual API engine from WooCommerce core and instead offering it as a dedicated plugin.

Moving the dual API engine to a separate plugin allows us to iterate in a more flexible way on its development, since we’ll be able to offer updates without being tied to specific WooCommerce core releases. This feature was always gated behind a feature flag, so this change only affects developers who opted into it and extended it.

How to Set Up WooCommerce and Google Ads Conversion Tracking in 5 Minutes

Running Google Ads for your WooCommerce store is only a fraction of the job. You also need to know which ad clicks result in purchases so you can measure campaign performance and make better decisions about where your advertising budget goes.

That’s where conversion tracking comes in.

Setting it up manually can involve Google Ads tags, ecommerce events, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and other technical configuration. For store owners who don’t want to manage tracking code themselves, that can quickly become complicated.

The good news is that you don’t have to build everything from scratch. Pixel Manager for WooCommerce can handle the core setup for you, with a free version available.

Search & Filter Pro Review: WooCommerce Performance Test

When it comes to searching and filtering products in WooCommerce, the core plugin ships with the basics: a price filter, an attribute filter, and a product categories widget, among a few others. For small stores with twenty products and two categories, that’s enough. Add more products, though, and it stops being useful.

Shoppers can’t narrow a 1,000-product catalog with a single dropdown. The default widgets don’t communicate in a way that resembles modern faceted search.

This Search & Filter Pro review covers what’s in the free version, what Pro adds, and how the plugin holds up on a test store with 1,000 products using our Shoptimizer WooCommerce theme.

Black Friday Has Changed. Has Your WooCommerce Strategy?

In this episode of Do the Woo, hosts James Kemp (Woo) and Katie Keith (Barn2) are joined by Chris Badgett, Co-Founder and CEO of LifterLMS, to talk about how WooCommerce store owners can plan for Black Friday.

Chris runs his own WooCommerce store at LifterLMS and has planned Black Friday sales for years. Katie and James have each been through plenty of Black Fridays themselves. They will all share their experiences on how to put together a Black Friday strategy, how Black Friday has changed over the years, which plugins can help you run your sale, and which marketing channels actually deliver results.
