Happy Wednesday!
This week went a lot better than the last one, so goal achieved. Honestly, it wasn’t even that hard! We’re down to the last few days at the beach (how did that happen?!), then we’re off to Rome for a few days, back home for a proper tidy up, and finally moving back to the city. This summer felt shorter than usual, mostly because we had so much to sort out in the house. Next year should be smoother.
I haven’t put much time into the money-making side of things this week, but I’ve had a lot of fun with my side projects. Now it’s time to step back from the AI experiments and get back to business. There’s a lot coming up, especially around Checkout Summit 2027. The waitlist is open, and I’ve already emailed my closest friends who are a potential sponsor. Looking forward to opening ticket sales and the call for speakers sometime in September!
Can WooCommerce Fix 2,300 Issues in 3 Months?
WooCommerce just admitted something out loud: its GitHub backlog is a mess, with over 2,300 open issues and more than 500 pull requests, some of them sitting there for years.
The company’s answer is a three-month push called Core Foundations, and in its own words, that backlog is “a to-do list this community wrote for us“.
So, I want to talk about why that backlog got so big, why AI just made this the best possible moment to clear it, and why on September 24 I’m going live with James Kemp to prove you don’t need to write a single line of code to help improve Woo.

Changes to product lifecycle hooks in WooCommerce 11.2: save and reorder
In WooCommerce 11.1 and 11.2, we are focusing on performance optimizations for larger product catalogs.
While this work prioritizes backward compatibility, some of the components involved were designed years ago and are structurally incapable of supporting the required performance improvements — the changes below outline what’s affected for extension developers and stores with customizations.
WooCommerce Staging 101: Test Store Changes Without Risking Orders
Before you touch a live WooCommerce store, name the thing you’re actually afraid of.
It’s probably not the update itself. It’s the order that doesn’t come through. The checkout field that disappears. The renewal email that goes to a real customer from a test site. The payment gateway that behaves differently once real money is involved.
That’s why WooCommerce staging matters. It gives you somewhere private to rehearse the work before customers have to experience the mistake.

From One .Org Plugin to Two
My first-ever WordPress.org plugin just got approved!
A few minutes later, I’d already built and submitted a second one, mostly by copying the first and swapping a few bits: one category becomes one shipping class, same mechanic, different rule.
Building the second one also surfaced a bug the first one couldn’t show on its own, a settings conflict that only appears once two CartRules plugins run side by side. Fixed it in both.
CartRules is starting to feel less like a single plugin and more like a small, growing family of them.

Easy Digital Downloads to WooCommerce, subscriptions included
Moving a store from Easy Digital Downloads to WooCommerce has always had one painful step in the middle: the subscriptions. Products can be rebuilt, content can be moved, customers can be exported. But recurring billing has stubbornly meant going back to every subscriber and asking them to subscribe all over again. Some do. Many do not, and you find out which is which over the following months.
Milo Subscriptions now imports Easy Digital Downloads Recurring Payments directly. Your subscribers keep their plan, their price and their renewal date, and never hear about the move.

How to Auto Apply Coupons in WooCommerce (Without Giving Away Margin)
WooCommerce does not auto apply coupons on its own. Every time a shopper has to manually enter a coupon code, there’s a chance they leave without finishing checkout.
That’s where a lot of ready-to-buy shoppers quietly disappear.
Auto apply removes the entry step entirely. Once a cart matches the conditions you set, the discount lands on its own, with nothing for the shopper to remember or mistype.
