WooWeekly #616: WooCommerce Won’t Fix Itself | Woo Marketplace | Woo Block Themes

Happy Wednesday!

I’ll keep this short because I’m about to go for a nap. I haven’t slept well for a few days now, for a mix of reasons. It’s still pretty warm here in Sicily, and whether the aircon is on or off, our kid keeps waking up during the night, which means I end up losing sleep too. If this issue has a typo or two, you know why!

On the business side, I’m really happy with how the SaveThePlugin sprint is shaping up. We now have 9 participants and 4 teachers (I’ll announce the fourth teacher tomorrow). When I first had the idea it felt like a nice experiment, and now it’s turning into something real, which is very exciting to watch.

WooCommerce Won’t Fix Itself (But You Can Help)

Every week I read the same rants in Facebook groups, on X, in the WordPress.org support forums and in my own inbox. I get it, because I complain about WooCommerce too, and I’ve written well over a thousand posts to work around things that core doesn’t do or doesn’t do well.

The uncomfortable truth is that WooCommerce is open source, and open source only improves when someone reports the problem in the right place, or rolls up their sleeves and fixes it.

The good news is that getting your voice (or your fix) in front of the WooCommerce team has never been easier, and you don’t need to be a developer to do it.

Our First Woo Marketplace Submission, Rejections Included

I started building Sales by State as a WordPress.org project. Free plugins, a paid add-on sold through my own licence manager, everything running on infrastructure I control. That worked fine.

Then I decided it was time to also list Sales by State PRO on the WooCommerce Marketplace, a different channel with its own review process and its own rules about what a plugin name can even look like.

So, here’s what actually happened, in the order it happened, starting with the two rejections.

How I Built CartRules.com With Novamira Pro

I’ve been building WordPress and WooCommerce sites by hand for close to fifteen years. Every theme, every plugin, every line of custom PHP, typed myself, tested myself, deployed myself.

But when it came time to put a homepage on cartrules.com, I decided to try something different. Especially after a whole summer spent “playing” with AI…

Instead of opening a code editor, I switched on Novamira Pro, connected Claude Code directly to the site, and let it build the website with a few prompts. I think it worked pretty well!

Join us for our “Building with WooCommerce Block Themes” Live Event

Join us on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 10 a.m. PDT / 1 p.m. EDT / 7 p.m. CEST for a practical live conversation about building WooCommerce stores with block themes.

Block themes give merchants and builders new ways to shape a store’s layout, styles, and templates. They also change how agencies think about design systems, plugin compatibility, performance, and the boundary between visual editing and custom code. If you have been curious about block themes—or tried them and found the experience harder than expected—this conversation is for you.

Running the Claude Commerce Agent on WooCommerce

On September 2nd, Anthropic published the Claude commerce agents, an open-source starter code for shopping assistants as well as merchant assistants. We leverage the code to ship our own version for WooCommerce which can be found in our latest Agentic Tools repo, which will be a fun, growing space for our open-source commerce tools. Please keep in mind that these are built for experimentation and growth, and are not maintained within official capacity.

We wanted to get a version out that really considers merchant control. Ultimately, you as developers and merchants should still be at the helm of your catalog, checkout experience, payment gateway decisions and ultimately your customer relationships.

The Complete 2026–2027 Ecommerce Holiday Sales Calendar For WooCommerce Stores

Every year the big sales events sneak up on WooCommerce store owners. Black Friday lands, and you’re scrambling to build a promo, write emails, and pick discounts. All in the same week. The result is rushed campaigns and thinner margins.

Meanwhile, plenty of shoppers wander off because nothing told them the sale was coming. An ecommerce holiday sales calendar fixes that. It maps every key event across the year so you can prep early. Plus, it gives you a plan for building demand before each sale goes live.
