WooWeekly #608: WooCommerce Founders, Product Reviews, WPML Imports

Happy Wednesday!

I’m just back from five completely laptop-free days at a five-star resort. My bank account is definitely a little lighter, but the break was badly needed. I’m hoping the extra energy will show over the coming weeks as I slowly get back into work mode.

The weather is finally back to normal too, so I’m looking forward to making the most of August at the beach. We’ve got a couple of birthday parties for my son coming up, and I’m still toying with the idea of dusting off the SUP board one of these mornings. Summer is flying by, and I’d like to enjoy it before September inevitably creeps up.

Business-wise, you’ll find some details below, but this week marks a pretty significant milestone for me: the beginning of my MRR/ARR era. For the first time ever, Business Bloomer has an active subscription. It’s a strange feeling after so many years of one-off purchases and lifetime deals. I’m still figuring out what it means in practice—churn and failed payments aren’t exactly the parts of the job I dream about—but the new subscription platform I’m on should make that side of things much easier. It’s a new chapter, and I’m excited to see where it leads.

Where Are the People Building for WooCommerce?

If you’re building for WooCommerce (you run a plugin company, agency, SaaS, hosting, ecommerce, consultancy), I’d like to ask you: how do people discover your Woo business today?

A few years ago, the answer was probably Google Search. Today, I’m not so sure; the way we discover products, services, and people has changed, and I don’t think our ecosystem has fully adapted.

The more I think about it, the more I feel that many great WooCommerce-related businesses don’t have a product problem.

How to Get More WooCommerce Product Reviews Without Annoying Customers

Most customers do not return to a product page by themselves. They finish the purchase, use the product, and continue with their day.

Reviewbird automatic review requests connect the timing, email, review form, reminder, and stop rules to each WooCommerce order.

WooCommerce: Why Multilingual Product Imports Break at Scale

The first time I imported a few thousand WooCommerce products into a WPML store, the import finished clean: progress bar at 100%, no errors.

But then I opened WPML’s Taxonomy Translation dashboard and everything was on fire. Translated products pointed at the wrong originals. Whole category trees existed in one language and simply weren’t there in the next. The counts never matched between languages, and nothing in any log said why.

WooCommerce is the foundation of our entire ecosystem

We just kicked off a large effort, and I want to post about it here because you’re going to see it happen in the open. For the next 3 months, most of our product and engineering teams will focus exclusively on the WooCommerce core plugin, the software at the center of every Woo store.

When we started this push, the WooCommerce repository on GitHub had over 2,300 open issues and 500 open pull requests. Some are bugs, some are enhancement ideas. Most came directly from merchants, developers, and agencies who took the time to write up what they were seeing.

WooCommerce Conditional Fields: How to Add Them to Your Store

Conditional fields let you show or hide form fields in your store based on what a customer selects. This is important for giving them a smooth shopping experience, where they select options before completing a purchase. For example, the product and checkout pages.

If you’re trying to add conditional fields to your store, you’ve probably run into the problem that WooCommerce doesn’t support them by default. We’re here to help.

Turn your Free Shipping Bar into a WooCommerce Rewards Bar

Most WooCommerce stores already use one version of this trick: show shoppers how close they are to free shipping, and they add another item to reach it. It works – but a single free shipping goal only takes you so far.

The CheckoutWC rewards bar takes that idea further. Instead of one finish line, you can stack up to three spend-to-unlock tiers in a single progress bar – free shipping, an automatic free gift, and your own custom reward – so customers always have a reason to add one more thing to the cart. It is one of the most direct ways to lift your average order value without discounting a single product.
