Hello there,
Welcome back to WooWeekly—where ~20,000 WooCommerce builders come each week for actionable tips, sharp insights, and the occasional strong opinion.
Today I turn 45, and I wrote a post about it. Honestly, there’s not much to celebrate in the traditional sense, but definitely a lot to think about. It feels like one of those strange checkpoints where you naturally stop for a moment and look at where things are heading, what still matters, and what probably doesn’t anymore.
On the business side, next week we finally have our first free class in weeks, and I really think you should join. I’ll be doing a full recap of Checkout Summit 2026, packed with actionable takeaways for WooCommerce users, developers, and founders with things you should be looking at for 2026 and beyond. Registration is now open
Anyhow, here comes your weekly round-up of WooCommerce tips and tricks. Enjoy!

45
Today I turn 45.
I’ve never been particularly interested in birthday posts, mostly because they often end up sounding either celebratory or nostalgic, and I don’t really feel either of those things right now.
What I feel instead is that strange sensation of standing at an important junction, where continuing in the same direction starts to feel riskier than making a deliberate turn.

Systems vs. Plugins: The specific framework Barn2 uses to scale to a global marketplace (video)
Katie Keith joined me at the Checkout Summit in Sicily to discuss the “missing piece” in the WordPress product journey. We dive deep into the mindset shift required to move from writing lines of code to building automated systems that generate revenue while you sleep.

First 3 videos from Checkout Summit released!
While the full recordings and slide decks are available to ticket holders only, I’ve started publishing some of the talks on our public YouTube channel.
In these first three videos (scroll to the “Selected Highlights” heading on this page), you can:
- Find out how I came up with the Checkout Summit idea
- Learn why a hosting provider that controls all three layers creates a win-win scenario
- Figure out how important accessibility really is for WooCommerce (and it’s not necessarily what you think!)

Bringing Variation Galleries into Core
We’re excited to announce another addition to WooCommerce core. The functionality previously offered by the Additional Variation Images extension is being merged into WooCommerce core, available for free, out of the box.
Starting with WooCommerce 10.9, every variation in a variable product can carry its own ordered gallery of images, beyond the single featured image variations have always supported.
WooCommerce Live Masterclasses & Cohorts

Once or twice a month, however, we run free live masterclasses open to everyone.
- May 28: Behind Checkout Summit 2026: Lessons for WooCommerce Builders. Checkout Summit 2026 is over, but what really matters is what comes next. In this session, I’ll go behind the scenes of the in-person event and share the patterns, conversations, and decisions that stood out most. The goal is simple: help WooCommerce makers, founders, and builders translate what we learned into both short-term actions and long-term direction, so you can plan your work with more clarity and less noise.
