WooWeekly #594: Let’s talk about WooCommerce

Hello there,

Welcome back to WooWeekly—where ~20,000 WooCommerce builders come each week for actionable tips, sharp insights, and the occasional strong opinion.

Well, Checkout Summit 2026 it is! I’m at the venue figuring things out, looking for the perfect spot to set up registration, and getting ready to pick up a few people from the airport—which should be fun. It’s a beautiful sunny day here in Sicily, and I’m hoping those arriving early get a chance to enjoy a walk on the beach before things kick off.

Being here after 10 months of work feels a bit unreal. It’s been a lot, but I’ve taken it step by step, without burning out, and now it’s finally happening. We’ve got a welcome dinner tonight, and tomorrow it’s showtime. If you couldn’t make it, I’ll be running the full event again in a couple of weeks—plus a few extra Woo speakers—so you’ll hear more about Checkout Summit {Reloaded} soon. For now though, I’m taking a moment to enjoy the sunshine!

Anyhow, here comes your weekly round-up of WooCommerce tips and tricks. Enjoy!

Let’s talk about WooCommerce!

If you’re reading this, you probably couldn’t make it to Palermo by now. But I do want to say this clearly: if Checkout Summit 2026 works, there will be a year two. And if sponsorships and contributors remain stable, there will be many more years after that.

This isn’t a one-off experiment anymore. It’s something I want to keep building, slowly, but consistently.

Right now, I’m writing this on the pre-event day. I’m setting things up, picking up attendees from the airport, and making sure my family is checked into the hotel so we can all settle in before the welcome dinner. It’s a bit chaotic, but the good kind.

Sponsors have been incredibly generous this year. Without them, I would have likely ended up in the red. I would have loved to sell more tickets and more sponsorship slots, but travel in 2026 is still… uneven. That said, having around 101 people in Palermo already feels like a win. A real one.

Can’t Make It to Palermo? Checkout Summit Is Going Online in May

Checkout Summit kicks off tomorrow in Palermo, Italy, and for those who can’t make the trip, organizer Rodolfo Melogli has announced a live online companion event scheduled for May 7 and 8.

Dubbed Checkout Summit {Reloaded}, the two-day event will bring all 12 keynote speakers back online to re-run their talks tailored for a remote audience.

In a video announcement, Melogli acknowledged that he was walking back an earlier decision to run Checkout Summit as an in-person-only event.

How to create custom signs, flags, and banners in WooCommerce

Custom-printed banners, signs, and flags are great products to sell. Customers can personalize them to their liking, and you get the higher margins that come with made-to-order work.

WooCommerce gives you the tools to sell these products, but standard variations weren’t built for this kind of flexibility. A single banner with a few materials, multiple size ranges, and finishing options quickly turns into hundreds of variations. That slows down your product page a lot and makes inventory (and also the backend config) harder to manage.

The Invisible Storefront: The Shift from SEO to AEO in eCommerce

All the work you’ve done on your store to appeal to human shoppers, including design, UX, photography, and lifestyle branding, could soon become much less relevant.

That’s due to the rise of AI shopping agents: automated software that helps users find and purchase products. These agents don’t browse your store as customers do. They don’t care about your pop-up discounts, your brand story, or your parallax scrolling. Instead, they analyze structured data, product feeds, and API responses. Your hero banner and aspirational photos are invisible to them.
