WooWeekly #589: Community Experiment | WooCommerce Events | Custom Message in Cart

Hello there,

Welcome back to WooWeekly—where ~20,000 WooCommerce builders come each week for actionable tips, sharp insights, and the occasional strong opinion.

I’m writing this from Vienna, where I’m spending a few days with family before the Checkout Summit hype pulls me back in completely. I’m also speaking at the local WordPress meetup while I’m here, so if you happen to be nearby, feel free to come out and say hi this evening.

On the business side, I’ve been in absolute ecstasy since last week. The Woo community really stepped up and started supporting Checkout Summit with small $10+ contributions each. 35+ people have contributed, bringing the total to about $1,500. If I can get 100 of those, I can move much closer to break-even. If you’re in the Woo space and want to support the project—even if you can’t make it to Palermo this time—you’ll also get two nice rewards in return. More details are here: https://checkoutsummit.com/product/checkout-summit-2026-founding-contributor/

Anyhow, here comes your weekly round-up of WooCommerce tips and tricks. Enjoy!

How the WooCommerce Community Surprised Me This Week

I tried a small experiment with the WooCommerce community this week. Instead of filling the Checkout Summit page with sponsor logos, I asked real people to step up and become contributors. Faces instead of brands.

Honestly, I had no idea what would happen.

A few days later the counter started climbing fast, the contributor page filled up with people from across the WooCommerce ecosystem, and the whole thing turned into something bigger than I expected.

So I wrote a quick update showing the progress, and a few lessons this experiment already taught me.

If you’ve ever wanted your carts to do more than just sit there, this article shows how small messages can have a big impact on conversions.
