WooWeekly #546: 404 Category Pages | Checkout Badges | Tax-Exempt Role

Hello there,

Welcome back to WooWeekly! I’m glad you’re here for another round of WooCommerce insights. Every week, I curate tips and tutorials for you to help you sharpen your WooCommerce skills.

I’ve been doing well, and sports are definitely helping me stay alive! Looking forward to next month’s trips: Basel for WCEU and Rome for some much-needed family time. And, of course, I’m also excited about moving into the beach house soon!

Yesterday’s “Send These 7 WooCommerce Emails & Watch Sales Grow” class was the most popular ever, with more than 130 people signing up! The recording is now available for BB Club members, as well as sign-ups for the last May event (Supercharge WooCommerce With Custom Product Options) and the September one (Classic vs Block: Add, Remove & Edit WooCommerce Checkout Fields). I absolutely love doing these classes!

I also managed to fix some checkout errors, which has resulted in plugin sales picking up again. Speaking of which, my WooCommerce Recover Abandoned Carts Mini-Plugin is now live, and it’s 30% off lifetime for those who want to get in early!

With summer approaching, I need to get my act together and release my CLI course. Also, complete my to-do list for the holidays (as of now: ditching AffiliateWP, replacing Google Analytics, redesigning my homepage).

I love working during the summer – even if I have less time, my productivity goes up!

Anyhow, here’s your weekly round-up of WooCommerce tips and tricks. Enjoy!

WooCommerce Tips, Snippets & Tutorials

Here is a collection of posts to answer your biggest WooCommerce questions. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced store owner, these resources will help you optimize your WooCommerce store and grow your online business.

WooCommerce: Redirect Empty Paginated Category Pages (404)

When managing a WooCommerce store, it’s common to rearrange products or remove them from certain categories. However, this can lead to an unexpected issue: paginated product category URLs (e.g. /product-category/shirts/page/3/) may still be accessible even when that specific page no longer contains any products. [Business Bloomer]

Install a Guaranteed Safe Checkout Badge on Your Store

Did you know that a quarter of all shoppers abandon their carts because they don’t feel secure about sharing their payment details? According to Baymard Institute research, payment security concerns are a major conversion killer for online stores. [CheckoutWC]

How to Add Tax-Exempt Roles to WooCommerce

This guide shows you how to implement role-based tax exemptions in two ways: Using dedicated plugins like Tax Exempt for WooCommerce or implementing custom code solutions directly into your site. Both approaches transform what could be a tedious manual task into an automated system that runs in the background while you focus on growing your business. [Studio Wombat]

WooCommerce Payment Gateways Compared (2025 Edition)

Choosing the right WooCommerce payment gateway is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your online store. It affects how customers pay, how quickly you get paid, and how smooth the entire checkout experience feels. [Iconic]

Implement interactivity, scheduling, and monitoring in Slackbots for managing WordPress sites

Slackbots don’t have to wait for you to type out commands. With the right setup, your bot can help manage your WordPress sites by offering interactive buttons, dropdowns, scheduled tasks, and smart alerts — all right inside Slack. [Kinsta]

ICYMI: WooCommerce Snippets

WooCommerce: Complete Button @ Order Admin

Typically, to mark an order as “Completed,” you’d have to open the order, change the status from the dropdown, and then click “Update”. That’s an extra step that can feel repetitive if you’re doing it often. In this quick developer tutorial, I’ll show you how to add a “Complete Order” button directly to the single order edit page in the WooCommerce admin. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Allow Guest Checkout For Existing Customers

If you disable Guest Checkout via the settings, all customers are required to either log into an existing account or register a new one during checkout. The problem? Returning customers who aren’t logged in will be forced to remember their credentials or manually reset their password, just to place another order. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Simplify Free Checkout

If your WooCommerce store occasionally offers free products—whether as part of a promotion, a free trial, or a lead magnet—you may have noticed that the default checkout still displays all billing (and shipping) fields. Thankfully, there’s a simple way to customize this behavior and show only the checkout fields you truly need. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Inject Ad After the nth Product @ Shop Page

Is it possible to insert a custom loop item, such as a promotional banner or a “fake” product, into the WooCommerce shop page after a specific number of real products – for example, after the third one? Spoiler alert: yes, it is! [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Prevent Duplicate Orders

Sometimes customers accidentally submit the same order twice, or there may be a temporary issue with a WooCommerce payment gateway or a plugin conflict—such as the Sucuri Firewall problem in March 2025. This can result in duplicate charges, refunds, chargebacks, admin costs and a poor user experience. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Auto-Hide Products Without a Featured Image

Instead of manually checking and updating each product, you can use a simple PHP snippet to exclude products missing a featured image from your shop, category, and search pages. This approach keeps your store looking polished while preventing customers from encountering blank product thumbnails. The best part? It only takes a few lines of code to implement. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Hide Columns @ My Account Downloads Table

Want to customize the WooCommerce “Downloads” table on the My Account page? By default, WooCommerce displays multiple columns (“Product”, “Downloads remaining”, “Expires”, “Download”), but you may want to remove some for a cleaner look or to focus on essential information. [Business Bloomer]
