WooWeekly #543: Simplify Checkout | CRO Class | Phishing Alert

Hello there,

Welcome back to WooWeekly! I’m glad you’re here for another round of WooCommerce insights. Every week, I curate tips and tutorials for you to help you sharpen your WooCommerce skills.

It’s been one of those weeks — school’s been closed for 10 days, my wife’s been busy with a national exam, and I’ve been on full-time parenting duty. Let’s just say “productivity” took a little vacation. That said, Easter brought some much-needed joy (and food!), so at least I got my dopamine fix through chocolate and good meals.

The next live class — Spotting WooCommerce Conversion Rate Killers: A Live Audit — is happening next week! We’ve got 26 attendees so far, which means there’s still plenty of room for you to join in (yep, it’s free). And if you know someone who’d benefit, please share the link — a tweet, an email, or a DM would go a long way. Also, if you run or know of a WooCommerce store and want a free 5-minute CRO teardown during the live session, put the site forward! It won’t hurt the brand — I’ll just share a few quick wins that can be implemented right away.

On another note, my free plugin WooCommerce Autocomplete Orders is quietly turning into my most popular one. I’m now planning to build a premium addon for it — if you’re using it or thinking about it, I’d love your help with a bit of market research. What would make it even more useful for a Woo store?

Anyhow, here’s your weekly round-up of WooCommerce tips and tricks. Enjoy!

WooCommerce: Simplify Free Checkout

If your WooCommerce store occasionally offers free products—whether as part of a promotion, a free trial, or a lead magnet—you may have noticed that the default checkout still displays all billing (and shipping) fields. Thankfully, there’s a simple way to customize this behavior and show only the checkout fields you truly need. [Business Bloomer]

ICYMI: WooCommerce Snippets

WooCommerce: Inject Ad After the nth Product @ Shop Page

Is it possible to insert a custom loop item, such as a promotional banner or a “fake” product, into the WooCommerce shop page after a specific number of real products – for example, after the third one? Spoiler alert: yes, it is! [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Prevent Duplicate Orders

Sometimes customers accidentally submit the same order twice, or there may be a temporary issue with a WooCommerce payment gateway or a plugin conflict—such as the Sucuri Firewall problem in March 2025. This can result in duplicate charges, refunds, chargebacks, admin costs and a poor user experience. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Auto-Hide Products Without a Featured Image

Instead of manually checking and updating each product, you can use a simple PHP snippet to exclude products missing a featured image from your shop, category, and search pages. This approach keeps your store looking polished while preventing customers from encountering blank product thumbnails. The best part? It only takes a few lines of code to implement. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Hide Columns @ My Account Downloads Table

Want to customize the WooCommerce “Downloads” table on the My Account page? By default, WooCommerce displays multiple columns (“Product”, “Downloads remaining”, “Expires”, “Download”), but you may want to remove some for a cleaner look or to focus on essential information. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Add Column to Orders Table @ WP Dashboard

So the question is: how can we display additional columns in the orders table, so that we can display an order custom field, a specific product contained in the order, or anything order-related that can be “calculated” once we have access to the $order variable? Note: this snippet is not compatible with HPOS, as it relies on legacy hooks. For an HPOS-compatible solution, please consider the suggested free plugin. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Automatically Complete Processing Orders

If you wish to mark paid orders as “Completed” automatically (i.e. without having to manually login to the site and “check” processing orders one by one), you can use this code. Apparently, this won’t work with COD / BACS / Cheque orders when order total is > 0, so I also coded a free plugin to get this sorted. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Show/Hide Registration Form on Login Page

WooCommerce by default displays both login and registration forms on the same page when “Allow customers to create an account“ is enabled on the My Account page. However, for a cleaner and more user-friendly experience, you may want to hide the registration form initially. This method keeps the interface focused while still allowing easy access to the registration option. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Add “Leave a Review” Column to Downloads Table

This snippet modifies the WooCommerce My Account downloads section, ensuring customers can leave product reviews directly from their available downloads. The button appears only for products that haven’t been reviewed yet. [Business Bloomer]

WooCommerce: Search Orders By 2-Letter Country Code [HPOS]

WooCommerce’s order search function is essential for store admins, but with the introduction of High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS), searching by billing or shipping country code may no longer work as expected. If you’re used to quickly filtering orders by country, this limitation can be frustrating. Fortunately, there’s a simple way to bring back this functionality using a custom code snippet. [Business Bloomer]
