WooWeekly #462: Trending Products | Order Number Prefix

Hello there,

Welcome back to WooWeekly, your weekly appointment with WooCommerce tutorials, tips and updates handpicked for you (and the other 18,264 subscribers) so that you can learn something new.

I’m in Rome, Italy, for my first official week off of the year… I didn’t bring my laptop either so I decided to fully enjoy the time with my family. This was a tough month so it’s good to spend some days away from everything.

Haven’t done much to progress with the WooCommerce mini-plugins challenge this week, however I redesigned the Business Bloomer header, navigation menu and cleaned the checkout page – feel free to share your feedback in case some CSS has caused problems.

Anyhow, here are this week’s WooCommerce tips – enjoy.

1. WooCommerce Tips & Snippets

WooCommerce: Order Number Prefix / Suffix

By Rodolfo Melogli, Business Bloomer

What if you need to add a prefix or a suffix to this number, so that this is in line with your business or invoice requirements? See snippet

WooCommerce: Get “Trending” Products

By Rodolfo Melogli, Business Bloomer

There is a way to display the WooCommerce bestsellers via shortcode / block, but there is no way to calculate the bestsellers – say – from the last 7 days i.e. a list of “trending” products over the last N days. The function below gives you a way to loop through the latest orders and fill an array with the top 10 products – you can then pass this list of IDs to a shortcode to display them wherever you wish. See snippet

How to Customize the WooCommerce Product Gallery

By Gina Lucia, IconicWP

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to customize everything from where your thumbnails are positioned to the type of image zoom you use, adding product video, and so much more. Read more

2. ICYMI: WooCommerce Articles

WooCommerce: Get Order Tax Percentage

By Rodolfo Melogli, Business Bloomer

You’d think WooCommerce had an easy way to get the order tax rate percentage, the same way as you can get almost everything inside the “order object” with a single line of PHP. Well, that’s not the case unfortunately. See snippet

WooCommerce: Product Title Shortcode

By Rodolfo Melogli, Business Bloomer

On my WooCommerce product pages I found myself typing the product title at least three times: in the product name input field, ok, but also again in the product long description and in a custom product tab inside a text link. So, I coded a shortcode! See snippet

WooCommerce: Add Hyperlink to Shipping Method Label @ Cart & Checkout

By Rodolfo Melogli, Business Bloomer

How can we add a clickable text link to each shipping method, given that we can’t use the WooCommerce settings? Well, as usual, a quick PHP snippet can help us with that. See snippet

WooCommerce: Hide “Private” Products From The Shop Page

By Rodolfo Melogli, Business Bloomer

The problem is that if admins or store managers are logged in, private WooCommerce products (as well as private WordPress posts, private WordPress pages, etc.) are actually visible on the Shop, Category and product loop pages. See snippet

WooCommerce: Apply Discount to Cheapest Cart Item

By Rodolfo Melogli, Business Bloomer

If you run WooCommerce store promotions, this little snippet will help you with that. For example, how to run a “Buy 2 products, get one half off” or a “Buy 3 products, get the cheapest one for free” campaign? See snippet

WooCommerce: Set Customer Default Tax Location

By Rodolfo Melogli, Business Bloomer

So, today, we will be setting the default tax location when “Customer billing address” has been chosen AND the customer is either logged out (so, no billing address is set) or logged in but have no saved address (for example, a brand new customer). See snippet
