If you work with a retailer who has a brick-and-mortar presence or if you are such a retailer yourself, then you should keep apace with the most recent developments regarding PayPal. For context, last year, PayPal acquired Happy Returns for an undisclosed amount. Happy Returns focused on leveling the playing field for retailers competing with Amazon & Walmart on facilitating painless returns. As someone working on leveling the playing field for retailers in a different arena — checkout & payments — I loved the company’s mission. But given that most acquisitions end up going nowhere, I was skeptical about where the PayPal deal would lead.
Well, as it turns out, that skepticism may not have been warranted in this instance. PayPal recently announced that it is rolling out Happy Returns’ services for free with PayPal Checkout to over 5000 locations. That’s a lot. Apparently 78% of Americans already live within a 10-mile radius of at least one of these locations. So definitely look into this if you fit the bill.
