WooWeekly #367: TGIBF

Hello there, how you doing?

Here in Sicily all is well. Today’s news is that Lorenzo has been diagnosed with hernia – my little boy requires surgery asap. I’m happy we found that out early enough, as things could have gone badly. Let’s hope we can find a decent surgeon though, mission impossible down here.

Anyhow, welcome back to WooWeekly, your appointment with WooCommerce tutorials, tips and updates handpicked for you so that you can learn something new!

WooWeekly is put together by myself, Rodolfo Melogli, founder at Business Bloomer, your go-to blog for WooCommerce tips and David Mainayar, co-founder at PeachPay, the backed-by-WooCommerce 1-click checkout solution. If you wish to spread the word about WooWeekly you can tell friends and colleagues to sign up at wcwkly.com

So, let’s get the party started… enjoy!

0. TGI(B)F

Yes, thankfully this Friday is Black! You’ve surely heard of TGIF, so TGIBF sounds just about right. WooCommerce, YITH, IconicWP and all the other vendors are running incredible sales, so this is the right time of the year to take your WooCommerce purchases off the wish list!

Of course, Business Bloomer has a Black Friday offer too, but is limited to readers of this newsletter and won’t be made public. I prefer offering value to those who show interest in what I share every day as opposed to giving away bonuses to coupon-chasers 🙂

Here are the two BF offers:

  1. for Woo LEARNERS: holidays are fast approaching and online courses are the best way to learn something new or deepen your WooCommerce knowledge. The Business Bloomer bundle already gives you access to CustomizeWoo + TroubleshootWoo + ConfigureWoo courses for a discounted total ($397 + $297 + $97 = $̶7̶9̶1 $597). Get another $200 off today with coupon… [cut, newsletter only]
  2. for Woo VENDORS: since we’ve started selling sponsorship slots for WooWeekly, the response has been amazing. STAGE slot booked until January 2022. Many ORCHESTRA and BALCONY slots taken as well, including a brave vendor who got March 2022 already. Today’s your only chance of the year to get a little discount and advertise your product in front of 15,000+ newsletter readers. Get $200 off ORCHESTRA slot with coupon… [cut, newsletter only]

1. Brand New WooCommerce Content

WooCommerce Snippet: Rename “Read more” To “Out of stock” @ Shop

There is an unfortunate (IMO) add to cart button naming on the WooCommerce shop page / category pages / product loops. When an item is out of stock, the “Add to cart” (or “Select options” for a variable product type) button label will turn into “Read more”. To be honest, that doesn’t really say much to the end customer. It’s quite confusing and doesn’t make much sense. Today, we’ll see how to change that “Read more” label into something more comprehensible: “Out of stock”. A super easy trick. Enjoy: https://www.businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-rename-read-more-out-of-stock-shop/

WooCommerce Tutorial: How to Bulk Edit Product Categories

Using WooCommerce product categories is one of the best ways to help your shoppers find what they need quickly and improve their experience at your store. However, the real struggle begins when you have to edit these categories – adding new products, removing items or overwriting them into a new one for example. Performing these actions on one or two categories may not hurt, but editing a large number of them individually can be a challenge. Luckily, there are multiple ways you can bulk edit your product categories to save on time and boost efficiency. In this article, we’ll dive into how you can edit product categories en masse using WooCommerce’s default settings. For more advanced editing options, it’s best to go for plugins – so, we’ll also explore some great plugins you can use for this purpose. Let’s begin: https://www.businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-how-bulk-edit-product-categories/

WooCommerce Tutorial: How to Start an Affiliate Program in 4 Steps

That’s where affiliate marketing comes in. It is a popular marketing model where you recruit third parties to drive people to your WooCommerce store and purchase your products. Even better, you’ll only pay for successful conversions. In this post, we’ll discuss why using affiliate programs is one of the most effective ways to grow your business. We’ll then show how to create an affiliate program for your WooCommerce store in four easy steps. Let’s get started: https://www.businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-start-affiliate-program/

[WooCommerce Snippet] Fix “Sorry, This File Type Is Not Permitted for Security Reasons” For Downloadable Products

In WordPress, you get the “Sorry, This File Type Is Not Permitted for Security Reasons” error when you try to upload certain files to the Media library. Similarly, in WooCommerce you may get the same error when you try to upload a downloadable product download files. Why is that? Well, by default WordPress only allows certain file extensions to be uploaded to the site. For example PNG, JPG, PDF, PPT, DOC, MP3 and MP4 are within the allowed file types – the reason being they are “safe” and won’t contain malicious code that could create problems within a WordPress install. The thing is – I’ve started selling my first downloadable product (a mini-plugin) here on Business Bloomer and I needed to upload a ZIP file (the mini-plugin), a JSON file (a Code Snippet export file for those who don’t like plugins) and a TXT file (the plugin’s raw code for those who like to play with PHP). All went smoothly for the ZIP upload, but as soon as I tried uploading the JSON and TXT files I got the “Sorry, This File Type Is Not Permitted for Security Reasons” error. Panic? Not really. It’s only a matter of finding the right code to change this default WordPress behavior. So, say hello to the “upload_mimes” filter, which allows us to do just that. Enjoy: https://www.businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-fix-sorry-file-type-not-permitted/

[News] WooCommerce + Elementor 3.5 = Enhanced Building

WooCommerce website builders are under increasing pressure to design the most user-friendly, engaging, and convenient ecommerce experiences for customers. However, the technology can be somewhat restrictive on its own, which is why so many designers turn to third-party tools, like Elementor. A well-known website creation platform, Elementor first introduced its WooCommerce integration in August of 2018. Back then, the goal of many designers was on creating the most aesthetically appealing product and archive pages. Now, the priorities of ecommerce shoppers and website developers have evolved. Adapting to the new focus on unified visual branding and enhanced user experiences, Elementor is now introducing a selection of new updates to its WooCommerce functionality. The new features of Elementor Release 3.5 could transform the way you design ecommerce sites: https://www.businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-elementor-integration/

[Business Development] I keep failing

I’ll be short because I really need to sleep. It’s 2.17am and my wife and son fell asleep a few minutes ago. We’ve had a strong cold for the last week, and it’s been difficult to look after both, especially Lorenzo, as we really didn’t know what to do given it was his first time with fever and a blocked nose. But that’s not the point. What’s bugging me this week is that I didn’t and I couldn’t find the time to get work done, especially now that Black Friday is coming and I really wanted to publish a new online course. Yep, I keep failing. Every day. https://rodolfomelogli.com/i-keep-failing/
