How you doing?
It’s a very warm Wednesday here in Sicily, and right now I’m getting ready for swimming 🙂 How’s been your July so far?
Anyhow, welcome back to WCWeekly – in this “Beach Edition” I will cover one WooCommerce topic, so that you can improve your knowledge around that.
Stay safe and be happy!
The Importance of the WooCommerce Shop Page
After the homepage and checkout page, the WooCommerce shop page is the most important section of an ecommerce website.
The shop page must display your products and give users at least one reason to go and view a single product, so that they can hopefully add to cart and place an order.
Hence, the shop page is the “link” between your homepage (brand) and checkout page (sales). It’s unlikely that users go straight to checkout; your shop page is of vital importance.
So, how can we improve the shop page?
First of all, visually. For example, we can display a “New!” badge to make some products stand out (badges in general are a great way to communicate a specific USP or offer: WooCommerce: How to Display Custom Product Badges).
To avoid bad user experience, you could display stock quantity or otherwise custom text under each product. What’s more, you can control the number of products per page and products per row (also possible from the Customizer settings from where you can set no. of columns and no. of products per column).
Besides, let’s hide some things! E.g. hide category images if you have any categories on top of the shop page, hide add to cart if you want people to go through product details first, hide products belonging to a given category, even hide prices, remove the sorting dropdown, product counter and category counters…
Finally, let’s hide prices and add to cart for logged out users only: https://www.businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-hide-price-add-cart-logged-users/
No matter the article you read and test – you have lots to learn this week!
