WooWeekly #293: make the most of now

How you doing?

It’s a quiet (after the rainstorm) Thursday here in Sicily – and officially our 17th day of quarantine here in Italy. Numbers are high but are slightly getting better, so we hope to come out of this in 2/4 weeks time.

Behind The Scenes – How I Implemented a Cart Deposit Offer

Enable a Cart Deposit

I used https://businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-force-cart-specific-amount-deposit/ to force the Cart to a specific fixed amount. Of course, I needed to trigger this only for a specific product ID, so here’s why there’s a second step.

…Only If a Specific Product ID is in the Cart

To check if an item is in the Cart, I used https://businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-easily-check-product-id-cart/ – by combining this with the Deposit function, I’m able to offer a fixed deposit ONLY if a specific product ID is in the shopping cart.

Handling the Balance Invoice Later

Later on, I duplicate each deposit order received (thanks to the free https://wordpress.org/plugins/wc-duplicate-order/ plugin), so I don’t need to enter all billing details again. I then set the adjusted total (full price minus the deposit already paid) and use the out-of-the-box “send manual invoice” WooCommerce function to notify the customer, so they can pay their balance.
