How you doing?
It’s a sunny Thursday here in Sicily – and officially our 10th day of quarantine here in Italy. Numbers are scary right now but we expect the worst this week, then it should hopefully slow down. I hope, wherever you are, that you understood how serious this is and that you’re indoor even if you don’t want to. Make the most of it!
Anyway, welcome back to our WooCommerce Weekly appointment – here comes a series of WooCommerce tutorials put together by yours truly so that you can learn something new.
Visual Hook Guide / Single Product / New Version
I made the most of my indoor time this week and published a revised version of my popular visual hook guide for the single product page. I reorganized the list of removable default actions, added some “skip to content” buttons, added a text-only version: https://businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-visual-hook-guide-single-product-page/

How to Safely Update WooCommerce Via Staging
When a new version of the WooCommerce plugin is released, and the WordPress dashboard starts sending you notifications that it’s time to update, this question comes always to mind: “Should I update WooCommerce right now, wait a little longer, or stay on the same version unless something breaks?” Well, updating WooCommerce is ALWAYS a big risk – potentially you can break your live website and miss out on traffic and sales. But updating WooCommerce is definitely a good idea for the long-term. The main cause of WordPress hacking is because of out-of-date plugins and themes. And this is where staging environments come in. A staging website is a clone of your existing live store. It’s completely separate and it doesn’t affect your live store in any way. Staging gives you the benefit of 1-click-cloning in a few minutes, updating and testing WooCommerce without worrying about breaking your actual live website, and finally “pushing” the changes to the live website, so the functioning is 100% guaranteed: https://businessbloomer.com/how-to-safely-update-woocommerce-via-staging/
Revised WooCommerce Tutorials
WooCommerce: Checkbox to Hide/Show Custom Checkout Field
This snippet could come really handy for several reasons. When you’ll need to do advanced customization of the checkout and its fields, hopefully you’ll thank me then. In today’s snippet, we will add a new checkbox and another new “hidden” field – then, if the checkbox is ticked, the field will show, otherwise it will disappear again: https://businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-add-checkbox-hideshow-checkout-field/
WooCommerce: Disable Payment Gateway by Country
You might want to disable PayPal for non-local customers or enable a specific gateway for only one country… Either way, this is a very common requirement for all of those who trade internationally. Here’s a simple snippet you can further customize to achieve your objective. Simply pick the payment gateway “slug” you want to disable/enable (“paypal”, “authorize”, “stripe”, etc.) and the country code (US, ES, IE, etc.) and then apply your conditional rules in the plugin below: https://businessbloomer.com/disable-payment-gateway-specific-country-woocommerce/
