WooWeekly #291: Lockdown, Est. Delivery Date, Store Credits

How you doing?

It’s a weird Wednesday here in Sicily – as you may have heard the whole of Italy is under Coronavirus lockdown. Everyone is at home apart from workers and doctors. Shops are open, and despite the mad rush for groceries on Monday night they won’t run out of stock. Basically we’re on a partial lockdown, less strict than China’s successful quarantine in Wuhan – maybe we should’ve just copied them 10 days ago to avoid further problems. Anyway, better late than nothing. May Italy get back on track soon!

Anyway, welcome back to our WooCommerce Weekly appointment – here comes a series of WooCommerce tutorials put together by yours truly so that you can learn something new.

WooCommerce: Show Dispatch / Est. Shipping Date @ Single Product

A good way to inform online customers and avoid issues is showing the estimated delivery / dispatch time on the single product page, just below the “Add to Cart” button. Also, this is great because if you change something in your dispatch rules, you just need to change the short PHP snippet and not all your product descriptions. It’s much more flexible this way. Finally, in this post we’ll learn how to work with cut-off times (hour of the day) and current day of the week (pure PHP), so that we can show a “dynamic” notice based on current date. So, let’s see how it’s done: https://businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-show-dispatch-est-shipping-date-single-product/

WooCommerce: How Store Credits Can Benefit Store Owners and Customers

Running an online store often means coming up with smart ideas that can help you sell your products faster. There are no strategies that work all the time, for all WooCommerce websites. But there is one that is often very effective: offering store credits. With this functionality, customers can purchase store credits (as opposed to buying products) and then they can use their credits to buy products from the store. Now it’s time to figure it all out. And thankfully, there’s a plugin for that: https://businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-how-store-credits-can-benefit-store-owners-and-customers/

Revised WooCommerce Tutorials

WooCommerce: Add Second Description @ Product Category Pages

In terms of SEO, if you’re trying to rank your product category pages, you really need to make the most of the default WooCommerce product category “description” and “thumbnail”. But what if you want to add another piece of content below the category products while also keeping the default description? Well, we’d need to customize the edit category page and display a new text editor field, save it, and finally display it where we want. So, here’s how they do it: https://businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-add-a-second-content-box-product-category-pages/

WooCommerce: Always Show Single Variation Price @ Single Product

When a variable product has the same price for all variations, a unique price is shown to website users i.e. the one at the top of the page. However, this behaves differently when each variation has its own unique price – in this case the single variation price shows after a variation is selected. So in this snippet we’ll see a quick fix to make this behavior consistent i.e. showing the variation price after selection every time, no matter the conditions. Thankfully, it’s literally one line of PHP. Enjoy: https://businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-always-display-single-variation-price/

WooCommerce: Display “In Stock” Products First @ Shop

We’ve already seen how to add a custom “Product Sorting” option to the “Default Sorting” dropdown in the WooCommerce Shop page. The task I was presented with, however, was to display items based on a custom “meta key” such as “_stock_status”. Anyway, let’s get into coding – as usual, simply copy/paste this little plugin in your functions.php and you’ll get the wanted result: https://businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-show-in-stock-products-first-shop/
