I’m finally writing from Sicily today and after a couple of weeks off it’s time to get back to business***.

WooCommerce: Flat Rate Calculation Based on Weight (Without a Plugin!)
We already talked about weight based shipping and in this post we found out how to charge different flat rates based on shipping weight thresholds.
But now I want to show you how you can use the default “Flat Rate” to calculate shipping costs based on cart weight, thanks to a multiplier. For example, your shipping rate might be “$5 for each Kg” – as you know the default “Flat Rate” only allows you to define one rate e.g. $10.
So, what if you want to calculate shipping charges by weight? Well, here’s a simple workaround for you:

WooCommerce: Hide “No products were found matching your selection”
When your WooCommerce store has no published products the shop page will not display anything. A message “No products were found matching your selection” will show instead. The same applies to empty categories.
So, how do we hide this notice? Thankfully, and once again, one line of PHP is sufficient to achieve the result! Enjoy:

NEW: What I’m Working on This Week
- Time has come. Yesterday I duplicated my homepage and started rebuilding it in Gutenberg. It’s still in draft mode but expect it to go live soon. Had to install Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg plugin as the default Gutenberg blocks are not sufficient for my needs. My Gutenberg move will go slowly, page after page, and only at the end I will look into redoing the blog posts (which are way too many).
- I’m busy with clients, implementing complex shipping by weight, updating a Woo site from 2.6 to 3.5.4, troubleshooting a backup restore gone wrong and developing a custom shortcode for a client’s promotional email. i hope to get all done by Friday and if not, at least 75% of it.
- I’ve found out Sensei, which I use for my online course/s, is relaunching and changing to a freemium strategy. So it’s the perfect time to record new and up to date videos for CustomizeWoo. Besides, my Vimeo subscription is ending soon and I’m moving my course videos to JetPack video hosting, which is cheaper (€99/yr) and also gives me security and performance features. I hope this is a good decision.
- I’m looking for my 1st vendor for the Sicilian online marketplace I just launched, https://apieceofsicily.com/en/ – I totally underestimated how hard it is to get the first one… we spoke to many and they’re all interested but getting them to register on the site is quite difficult. If I can get one this week, it means it will be easier to get the next ones.
