WooWeekly #584: Special Edition

Hello there,

Welcome back to WooWeekly! Every week, I curate tips and tutorials for you (and the other 20,000 subscribers!) to help you sharpen your WooCommerce skills.

Today’s a special edition of WooWeekly because we’re officially in crunch mode for Checkout Summit—only 78 days to go. I’m building in public a bit more than usual, sharing updates, progress, and problems as they happen. And to make this extra special, there’s a small surprise waiting for the first 6 of you who act quickly (more on that below).

On the personal side, I caught the flu yesterday—nothing too serious, thankfully—and my kid is perfectly fine, which makes all the difference. Between rest, tea, and a bit of slow work, I’ve been trying to keep some balance while still moving things forward.

On the business side, it’s been full-on. I scheduled two new classes (see below) and my first-ever plugin dev cohort is off to a strong start, which has been really satisfying. I’m still deep in Checkout Summit prep, plus reaching out to clients I’d paused on over the last couple of months. It wasn’t an easy call, but I stopped taking client work for now to fully focus on the Business Bloomer Club and Checkout Summit—and so far, it’s paying off.

Anyhow, here comes the special edition, and your weekly round-up of WooCommerce tips and tricks. Enjoy!

RoadToCheckoutSummit -78

It’s been nine years since WooCommerce had a dedicated conference of its own.

And that’s exactly what Checkout Summit is trying to do. This is a conference built for Woo people, with real support from the ecosystem. I’m thrilled that WooCommerce itself is sponsoring and speaking—having their backing at this stage is invaluable.

Here’s a snapshot of where we are today:

Speakers

We’ve already announced 10 speakers, and 3 have official talk titles assigned. Their focus and angles are super interesting and carefully targeted for the Woo ecosystem. I’m waiting on the last 2 to finalize their profiles, and then the line-up will be complete. Every talk is being shaped through 1-to-1 conversations to ensure the content is genuinely useful and actionable.

Sponsors

We’re about to reveal our next 2 sponsors, just waiting on payments and signed agreements. That will leave only 3 sponsor booths to fill, which I’m actively working on. Seeing this come together after months of effort feels amazing.

Venue & Schedule

The hotel and conference venue is only 13 minutes by taxi from Palermo airport—no car rental needed. We’ll kick off with a welcome dinner party on April 22, followed by two full days on an all-inclusive basis: food, coffee, drinks… everything’s on me, except your hotel room. Attendees (see who’s coming) just need to relax, network, and have fun.

Media Partners & Volunteers

Photos, videos, emcees, registration, and on-site support will be crucial to help me avoid burnout. Having this team in place will make everything run smoother and ensure attendees get the full experience.

Swag & Prizes

I’m a bit behind on swag and still DIY-ing some pieces to keep it simple and fast. Tickets include swag, and I hope the final result will be fun and useful!

Guests & Side Events

I recently added guest tickets, so your +1s can join evening and night events without missing out. They can enjoy a beach walk during the day and then come for drinks and dinner. I’m also planning a two-day game and other activities to make sure we stay entertained and engaged.

Tickets (and your special offer!)

I built a custom counter in the WP dashboard to track our progress toward the goal of 150 tickets. For this newsletter, here’s your special offer: the next 6 tickets can be purchased at half the price, basically restoring the early bird pricing.

Just click on https://checkoutsummit.com/product/checkout-summit-2026-early-bird-ticket/ and see if the offer is still available to you. Once they’re gone, they’re gone—no coupon needed.

Printing & Design

I’m still behind on pull-up banners, signage, badges, and lanyards. Graphic design is slowing me down a bit, but it’s necessary before I can get everything to the printer.

Sanity…

Finally, I’m trying really hard to stay calm. These last 78 days will exponentially grow the tasks ahead, and it’s going to take careful planning, pacing, and some relaxation to make it all happen—and to make it out alive.

WooCommerce Tips & Snippets

Here is a collection of posts to answer your biggest WooCommerce questions. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced store owner, these resources will help you optimize your WooCommerce store and grow your online business.

WooCommerce: Leverage Block Hooks to Insert Content

Kathy came across a question recently about customizing the Product Collection block—specifically, how to add something like a visual “flash” badge. Back in the pre-block days, this would have been as simple as hooking into woocommerce_before_shop_loop_item_title, but things are a little different now.

This article shows a clever workaround using block hooks, a feature introduced in WordPress 6.4. Instead of building a whole new block, you can insert custom content—like a “New” badge—directly into your Product Collection via the block editor. It’s a neat trick for anyone wanting more visual control without diving into full block development.

WooCommerce File Upload Settings Complete Implementation Guide

A while back, I was helping a store that sells customizable products, and it hit me how frustrating WooCommerce can be without native file uploads. Customers need to send their designs or personalization details, but the default setup just doesn’t support it.

This guide walks through exactly how to make file uploads work smoothly on your store. It covers adding upload fields, setting size and type restrictions, securing the files, and even showing uploads only when necessary.

If you sell anything custom—T-shirts, gifts, print-on-demand items—this article makes sure your customers can submit their files without headaches and you get everything you need attached to the order.
