WooWeekly #580: New Year, New Focus

Hello there,

Welcome back to WooWeekly, and happy new year! Every week, I curate tips and tutorials for you (and the other 19,856 subscribers!) to help you sharpen your WooCommerce skills.

I’m writing this one from Rome, where I’ve been spending a few days with my family. It’s honestly just nice to get a proper break from the usual routine. That said, these holidays have been… a lot. Way busier than expected. I now feel like I need time to relax from the holidays themselves—which, if you know me, is pretty much the story of my life 🙂

So, this is the first WooWeekly issue of 2026, and this year is going to feel very different. Since 2015 I’ve been pushing hard on content and tutorials, hoping the rules would never change. They did, of course. So this year has a clear keyword for me: community. Most of my energy will go there. An in-person conference. A big push on my membership for Woo developers. More videos, classes, cohorts, and activities built for humans, by humans. You’ll hear a lot more about this very soon. In next week’s issue (#581), I’ll share the full calendar for the next 2–3 months so you can see exactly what’s coming and where all this is heading.

There’s also a practical reason behind this shift. Last year I worked 795 hours, compared to 1,037 in 2024 and 1,255 in 2023. That’s a conscious choice—I don’t have a second job—but it means the time I do have needs to go into work that’s both productive and genuinely rewarding. Fewer scattered efforts, more focus on what actually matters.

Anyhow, here’s your weekly round-up of WooCommerce tips and tricks. Enjoy!

WooCommerce Tips & Snippets

Here is a collection of posts to answer your biggest WooCommerce questions. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced store owner, these resources will help you optimize your WooCommerce store and grow your online business.

7 Best WooCommerce Variation Swatches Plugins Compared

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve landed on a product page, stared at a dropdown with five random options, and thought: this could be so much better. Every time I tweak a store or review someone else’s setup, variation swatches come up again—not as a nice-to-have, but as one of those small changes that quietly shape the buying experience.

The tricky part is that not all swatches are created equal. I’ve tried enough plugins to know that some solve the problem elegantly, while others just add noise or friction somewhere else. This post came together after seeing the same patterns repeat across different shops, themes, and use cases—and realizing that “just install a swatches plugin” isn’t great advice anymore. The differences actually matter.

How to Create a Wholesale Order Form in WooCommerce

Every time I work on a store that sells wholesale, I’m reminded how painful the buying flow can get once quantities go up. Endless product pages, too many clicks, constant back-and-forth just to place what should be a straightforward bulk order. It’s one of those situations where WooCommerce technically works—but not in a way that feels good for anyone involved.

Over time, I’ve seen the same workaround requests come up again and again, usually after store owners notice wholesale customers hesitating or emailing orders instead. That repetition is what pushed me to look at wholesale order forms more carefully—not just whether they’re possible, but when they actually make a difference and what changes once you implement one properly.

Complete Your WooCommerce Setup in Under 30 Minutes

Funny enough, every time I help someone start a new WooCommerce store, the “setup panic” moment shows up the same way: a fresh install, a blinking screen of options, and that sinking feeling of not knowing where to begin. Payments, taxes, shipping… it all piles up faster than expected, and suddenly 30 minutes feels impossible.

What I’ve noticed over the years is that it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. There’s a pattern to the steps that actually work, and once you follow it, things click surprisingly fast. This post came from seeing that clarity happen again and again—how a little structure transforms what felt chaotic into a store that’s ready to run without endless tweaking.

Why Many Companies Leave Revenue (new leads) on the Table Every Month. And how to fix it.

I keep running into the same pattern with businesses: they’re convinced that if someone is interested, they’ll just call. Or they think ads are a waste, too expensive, or even “creepy”. And yet, month after month, potential revenue quietly slips away without anyone noticing. It’s one of those gaps that’s invisible until you actually measure it—and then suddenly it’s impossible to ignore.

Over time, I’ve seen that the fix isn’t about throwing more money at ads or building a fancy new site. It’s about connecting the dots: tracking interest, following up at the right time, and nudging people who would’ve otherwise vanished. What surprised me most is how small, technical tweaks can turn those lost opportunities into something very tangible—numbers you actually see on the balance sheet.
